PATRICK FELLOWS

He’s Patrick Fellows

One day about 7 or so years ago. I typed my name in the search box of the book of faces. I’m not really sure what I thought I’d find but I hit enter and waited. A second later. There I was. Patrick Fellows-Mississauga, CA. So I did what any normal person would do. I friended myself.

Just like the real me, who, much to the chagrin of my wife, accepts almost all non-Isis and obvious porn friend requests, the other me accepted. He’s a hockey player from a city a mere 3 hours from where my dad was born in Canada.  We share the same favorite number, 13. Coincidences are awesome.

Every year on his birthday I wish other me a Haps. He graciously accepts and likely pauses to chuckle. I mean I would so why shouldn’t other me.

I’m not sure why I thought about other me this morning. But I did, and I peeked in to see what he/I’d been doing. Hockey seems to still be going well. We scored a hat trick in a college game a couple weeks back. Yeah us!  Nice hockey!!

The world is a crazy place sometimes. As I checked in on other me today. I saw a post by his sister, Lindsay. What the what?!  I have a brother named Lindsay. Things are getting weird.

Really the point of all this is not really that you should all google yourselves or search for alternative yous out in the world, but rather an encouragement to act on seemingly inane things. Over the course of a week,I likely text or message 3-4 people out of the blue with a simple “hey. I was driving and wondered how you were.” Or “just checking on you and letting you know I’m thinking of you.”  Random inane gestures.

Most of the time people are thankful and appreciate it. Sometimes, like other me, they get a little freaked out.

That’s too bad. I’m never going to stop being random and how cool would it be to meet other me one day.

Reach out to a friend or a stranger this weekend. Make their day. Or at the least. Creep them out.
